WITH IT becoming one of the main drivers of the economy, finishing schools in this segment arc set to make a big impact. These institutes will work as supplementary training schools to make-up for deficiencies in the Indian secondary education system, said SV Verikatesh, founder & CEO of Raman International Institute o! Information Technology (RiiiT)
RiiT. considered to be the pioneer among the IT finishing schools in the country, has trained about 2000 students in ICT in collaboration with the Asian Development Bank (ADB).It has also developed world class learning content for more than SO intor-. mation and communication technology (ICT) subjects.
"According to the reports from and Nasscom and Dun & Bradstreet, a US-based financial information provider, most of the engineering graduates in India were unemployable. As a result, the IT industry in the country would face a shortage of 500,000 skilled workers by 2010. Besides, India will also face competition from emerging rivals such as China and Philippines, he said at a meeting on Thursday. According to him, IT finishing schools can play a major role in bridging the gap between industrial requirement and the quality of graduates.
